El Dr. Romeo Ortega nació en la ciudad de México, México. Realizó sus estudios de licenciatura en la facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1976), de Maestría en el Instituto Politécnico de Leningrado, URSS (1978) y de Doctorado en el Instituto Politécnico de Grenoble, Francia, obteniendo el título de Docteur d’Etat en 1984.
Trabajó en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México y en el CINVESTAV durante diferentes periodos entre 1975 y 1987, fue Profesor Invitado en la Universidad de Illinois, EEUU de 1987 a 1988, posteriormente regresó al Instituto de Ingeniería de la UNAM en 1989, fue de 1990 a 1991 Reserch Fellow de la Sociedad Japonesa para promoción de la Ciencia en la Universidad de Sophia, Tokio, Japón. De 1991 a 1992 fue profesor visitante en la Universidad de McGill, Montreal, Canadá. De 1992 a 2020 fue investigador del Centro Nacional de la Investigación Científica de Francia, CNRS, en el Laboratoire de Signaux et Systemes (CentraleSupelec) en Gif-sur-Yvette, Francia.
A lo largo de su carrera, el Dr. Ortega ha recibido numerosos reconocimientos entre los que destacan: Life Fellow Member del IEEE (1999); Fellow Member del IFAC (2016); Fellow of the Recruitment Program of High-end Foreign Experts of the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Universidad de Zhejiang, China, 2015-2017. Co-director del laboratorio "Adaptive and Nonlinear Control Systems Laboratory'', ITMO University, San Petersburgo, Rusia, 2015-2018. Miembro del "Sistema Nacional de Investigadores'', SNI-II, 1985-1990, SNI-III de 2020 a 2021 y SNI - Investigador Emérito a partir de enero de 2022, es miembro, además, de la Academia de Ciencias de México.
El Dr. Ortega es "Editor in Chief" de la revista Int. J. Adaptive Control and Signal Processing y "Editor at large” del Asian J. of Control. Ha sido Guest Editor de 8 Números Especiales en revistas internacionales e integrante de varios comités editoriales de revistas especializadas de circulación internacional. Autor de 5 libros, incluyendo uno citado más de 2000 veces, y 30 capítulos en libros. Ha publicado mas de 350 artículos en revistas científicas, incluidos 10 "Survey Papers", y 479 artículos en conferencias internacionales. El Dr. Ortega a dirigido 35 tesis doctorales.
Romeo Ortega was born in Mexico. He obtained his BSc in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Mexico, Master of Engineering from Polytechnical Institute of Leningrad, USSR, and the Docteur D`Etat from the PolitechnicalInstitute of Grenoble, France in 1974, 1978 and 1984 respectively. He then joined the National University of Mexico, where he worked until1989. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois in 1987-88 and at McGill University in 1991-1992, and a Fellow of the Japan Society for Promotion of Science in 1990-1991.
From 1992 to 2020 he was a member of the French National Research Council (CNRS) as a Directeur de Recherche in the Laboratoire de Signaux et Systemes (CentraleSupelec) in Gif-sur-Yvette, France.since June 1992. Currently his research interests are in the fields of nonlinear and adaptive control, with special emphasis on applications.
Dr Ortega has published five books and more than 350 scientific papers in international journals, with an h-index of 83. He has supervised more than 35 PhD thesis. He is a Fellow Member of the IEEE since 1999 and an IFAC Fellow since 2016. He has served as chairman in several IFAC and IEEE committees and participated in various editorial boards of international journals. He is currently Editor in Chief of Int. J. Adaptive Control and Signal Processing and Senior Editor of Asian Journal of Control.
