Es profesor de tiempo completo del Departamento Académico de Derecho del ITAM desde agosto de 2015, donde imparte las clases de derecho internacional público y derecho y gobernanza global. Anteriormente, fue investigador en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín. Asismismo, ha sido profesor por asignatura en la Facultad de Derecho de la UNAM.

Es licenciado en derecho por la UNAM, realizó estudios de posgrado en la Universidad Ludwig-Maximilians de Munich, y es doctor en derecho por la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín, donde obtuvo la más alta distinción (summa cum laude). Su disertación doctoral fue premiada con el Premio de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad Humboldt de Berlín, en 2016. En ese mismo año, ingresó al SNI, nivel 1.

Es miembro de la Rama Mexicana de la Asociación de Derecho Internacional (ILA), donde participa en los Grupos de Estudio sobre Sanciones de Naciones Unidas, así como Ciudades y Derecho Internacional. Es miembro del comité científico del Anuario Mexicano de Derecho Internacional.

En el sector público, Alejandro Rodiles se desempeñó como asesor en la Coordinación General de Asesores del Secretario de Relaciones Exteriores (2001-2003), director de derecho internacional en la Consultoría Jurídica de la Cancillería (2003-2005), y como asesor legal en la Misión de México ante la ONU, en Nueva York, durante la pasada membresía no-permanente de México en el Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas.

Obtuvo el premio al mejor libro de 2019 que otorga la Sociedad Europea de Derecho Internacional (ESIL) por su libro Coalitions of the Willing and International Law publicado en 2018 por Cambridge University Press. Durante un año fue Senior Fellow del Grupo de Investigación Berlin-Potsdam (KFG): International Rule of Law – Rise or Decline?.  Además, es profesor afiliado del Instituto de Justicia y Derecho Internacional (IILJ) en la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU).

Se ha especializado en el derecho de tratados, derecho de seguridad internacional, así como en el papel de las cortes nacionales en el desarrollo del derecho internacional. Su principal línea de investigación en los últimos años ha sido el análisis del impacto de la gobernanza global en el derecho internacional, en particular las interacciones entre el derecho internacional formal y los regímenes transnacionales informales.

A full time Professor at ITAM’s Law Department, Alejandro Rodiles teaches public international law as well as law and global governance. He earned his law degree (LL.B.) from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He has completed his doctoral studies (summa cum laude) at Humboldt University, Berlin. In June 2016, his PhD thesis was awarded with the Faculty Price of the Faculty of Law of Humboldt University. In July 2016, he was elected a member of Mexico’s National Research System (SNI, level 1).

Alejandro Rodiles has been a lecturer at UNAM’s Faculty of Law and a research fellow at Humboldt University. He is a member of the International Law Association (ILA, Mexican Branch), participating in ILA’s Study Groups on UN sanctions, as well as on cities and international law. He is also a member of the scientific advisory board of the Mexican Yearbook of International Law (AMDI).

Alejandro Rodiles was the legal adviser of the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations, in New York, during Mexico’s past non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council (2009-2010). Previously, he served as director of international law at the Office of the Legal Adviser at the Mexican Foreign Ministry, and as junior adviser at the Policy Planning Staff of the Foreign Minister.

He was awarded with the European Society of International Law (ESIL) Book Prize for his book Coalitions of the Willing and International Law published in 2018 by Cambridge University Press. He was a Senior Associate Fellow in the "Investigation Group Berlin-Potsdam (KFG): International Rule of Law – Rise or Decline?" for a year. Also, he is an Affiliated Professor at the Institute of International Law and Justice (IILJ) in the law department of New York University (NYU).

His research interests lie in international treaty law, international security law, as well as the role of national courts in the development of international law. He is also interested in Mexican foreign policy and its relation with international law. His main research focus in recent years has been on the ways international law is changing today because of global governance, in particular on the interplay between formal (classical) international law and informal transnational normative regimes.
